Cabot Circus Pedestrian Bridge, Bristol

Cabot Circus Pedestrian Bridge, Bristol.

This stunning new footbridge provides high-level access between the MSCP car parks and Cabot Circus shopping centre. The sweeping form straddles the new dual carriageway below. The deck is supported on three tapered cantilevering columns, which incline in opposing directions and not only balance forces but accentuate the articulated deck geometry.

DDA designed the steelwork and connections for both the main bridge and the glazing support enclosure. The design’s main challenge was creating discrete connections that could be easily constructed on site during the limited night road closures that had been made available.
