Copperfield Road, UK.

Copperfield Road is a seven storey building with 70 apartments, a basement car park and retail areas at ground floor. The site is located adjacent to Regents Canal in Mile End, East London.

The perimeter basement walls are sheet piles that were hydraulically driven to minimise the disturbance to the adjacent buildings. We worked with the sheet pile designers to develop a cantilevering retaining wall solution, with propped end walls, to maximise the clear area for excavation works. The sheet pile wall also formed the waterproof barrier for the basement.

The main building structure is a reinforced concrete frame, with two reinforced concrete cores, housing the lifts and stairs, to provide lateral stability for the building. The typical floors are 200mm thick reinforced concrete flat plate slabs.
