Crockham Hill Primary School, Kent.

We worked closely with HMY Architects from the initial concept stage to design a new single story extension to an existing primary school.

Traditional materials were used, where possible, to replicate the existing building aesthetics. An exposed glulam and steel frame was used to create the open space within the new hall and the facilities area comprised of trussed rafters on masonry walls.

A new contiguous piled retaining wall was required to the rear of the new extension to retain the existing graveyard of the adjacent church. A suspended slab on piles was used to support the masonry and timber structure above.

The space created is light and airy and provides much needed additional space for the school.
