Evelina Children's Hospital, UK.
The two areas of the project are a glazed diagrid roof and a link bridge between the new Children’s Hospital and the existing St Thomas Hospital. The diagrid roof creates a four storey conservatory which contains the hospital school, cafe and performance space and so forms the social centre of the new building.
We designed the major steelwork connections for both of these structures working closely with the specialist steel fabricator and the design team.
Aesthetics and ease of construction were the main driving factors for the design as the steelwork is highly visible and the connections were required to take significant forces.
