The Grange Hotel, London, UK.
We were commissioned by Portal to design the supporting steel structure (including all connections) for a new glass atrium roof and facades for a new hotel opposite St Paul’s Cathedral.
We worked closely with Portal to design a lightweight bow-string system spanning between two buildings to support a glazing system above. The ‘front’ bow string truss is designed to support several walkways and a glazed screen hanging below.
An internal exposed lift shaft, which works compositely with a series of glass & steel bridges, was also designed within the atrium space.
Throughout the design, careful consideration was given to the stringent deflection & movement joint criteria.
