Lamda Olympic Village, Greece.
The project is a lightweight roof over the malls and food court of a new 100 million Euro Commercial Centre in the Marousi area of Athens. The development has spectacular views of the main Olympic stadium.
The triple layer ETFE cushions are supported on alternating rafter and planar tubular trusses. The whole roof spans vary from 18 metres to 32 metres to adapt to the irregular geometry described by the main building structure. The entire roof plane is designed as one unit stabilized by the central island core.
A key issue in the design was the potential for seismic activity. This was accommodated in the detailing of the perimeter supports to allow shearing in all directions.
