New South Glasgow Hospital Atria, UK.

The £840m New South Glasgow hospital project is due for completion in 2015, and will comprise of a 1109 bed adult hospital and a 240 bed children’s hospital.

Both hospitals will feature large atriums to create dramatic focal points, which will be constructed using EFTE roofs on a steel frame to maximise light. Vector Foiltec’s Texlon® EFTE forms pneumatic cushions, which when inflated with low pressure air ensure insulation, resistance to wind load and durability.

DDA Engineers is working with Vector Foiltec and Nightingale Associates to investigate the complex geometry of the site and design in order to create a dramatic yet buildable solution with this material.
