Stonegrove Church and Community Centre, Edgware.
This new building comprises a church, community centre and nursery placing it at the heart of the newly developed community of the Stonegrove development in Edgware.
The structure is formed of a concrete structure up to first floor level with a lightweight steel structure above supporting the long span exposed glulam roof. The internal layout comprises areas of double height spaces, large open plan areas and external spaces. All of these requirements were brought together into one coordinated design using Revit and BIM modelling throughout.
The use of gabion cages as a cladding material provided the challenge of supporting the weight of a system more commonly used for retaining walls and earthworks while trying to keep the structure to a minimum.
We worked closely with the design team and contractor to balance costs, aesthetics and buildability into a unique structure able to be used by the whole community.
