Thorpedale Road, UK.
We were commissioned to complete the structural design for an additional third storey onto the existing masonry & timber semi-detached property in North London.
Lightweight steel portalised frames were used to create the additional storey, which were stabilised longitudinally by an extension of the external masonry walls. Plan bracing is provided by the lightweight composite timber roof panels. Each steel frame sits on a steel spreader beam to ensure good bearing onto the existing masonry walls below.
Intrusive investigations were carried out to justify additional load of a third storey onto the existing foundations.
The resulting extension provides an open versatile space that blends into the existing property with minimal structural impact on the existing building.
